Intro to Intro to Securing CFML Applications 

This presentation will be an introduction to application security and an introduction to securing CFML applications. We will look at what it means for an application to be "Secure", we'll discuss several general principles of application security, and we'll look at some of the basic threats against our applications and countermeasures to mitigate the risk of those threats.

We'll look at topics like:
 - What is a "secure" application
 - Principle of least privilege
 - Failing securely
 - Positive security model (white-listing)
 - SQL Injection
 - Cross-Site Scripting

Object-Oriented Design Principles

Object-oriented programming is quickly becoming a hot topic among ColdFusion developers. Unfortunately, OO can be hard to wrap one's head around, and confusion is rampant. Join Brian Kotek as he explorers OO modeling and design. Topics will include: * The basics of UML and class diagrams * Thinking about the model * Design principles * Indicators of design quality * Theory meets real life OOP is widely understood to deliver the biggest benefit for complex applications that leverage large, behavior-rich domain models. One area that Brian wants to consider is the role of OO techniques applied to "normal" ColdFusion applications. Since many CF apps are "data-centric", what advantages (if any) are gained from adopting OOP for that kind of application? Come to this session to gain a foundation in OO design and add your voice to the discussion. Please note that an understanding of basic concepts such as what objects, methods, and inheritance are is necessary, as this session isn't a primer on OO itself, but on OO design.

Brian Kotek has been building web applications for over 11 years for a range of enterprise customers and government agencies. His expertise lies in ColdFusion, Flex, AIR, Java, Groovy, and object-oriented development. He is a frequent blogger, writes for publications such as CNET and Fusion Authority Quarterly Update, and is a regular speaker at conferences such as CF.Objective() and CFUnited. Using CF Services to Manage Large File Transfers

This topic showcases how to integrate .NET and CF based webservices into a complete application and also presents a methodology for managing the transfer of large audio files that have been recorded on laptops in the field. The methodology discussed uses a simple packet type of approach where large files are “split” into manageable pieces and are sent piece by piece from a client laptop to centralized server and when all packets have been received and validated the file is re-assembled and saved on a website for further analysis. This presentation will discuss the approach used and the details of the technologies used. We will also look at the lessons learned and some future uses of this type of methodology.
