Andy Matthews is presenting jQuery & AIR: Desktop Development for the Front End Designer and Design to Deployment - Building a BlogCFC Monitor in jQuery & AIR and you can watch and learn for free at the CFinNC conference!
jQuery & AIR: Desktop Development for the Front End Designer
This session will help developers who have skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript leverage those abilities to build robust desktop applications using the jQuery JavaScript library and the Adobe AIR framework. The session will provide an overview of both the AIR framework, and the jQuery framework and why one might choose this deployment type over the more popular Flex/Flash method. We'll dive straight into a look at jQuery, covering several of the key areas of jQuery, along with some examples of how, and when to use them. Then we'll look at the various ways the AIR framework allows you to interact with data including SQLite databases, file system interaction (including encryption options), accessing remote data, and more. Finally we'll review the steps needed to package your AIR app including building in version control, and certificates.
Design to Deployment - Building a BlogCFC Monitor in jQuery & AIR
During this session you'll learn how to design, develop, and deploy a Blog CFC monitor in 50 minutes. We'll design the interface in Fireworks, export the HTML, CSS, and images into ColdFusion Builder, write up a CFC to power the app, and wire in some interface functionality using jQuery. Candidates for viewable metrics in the final app will be total comments, total unapproved comments, average time on site, and total posts. Feel free to suggest additional metrics that you think might be useful, or interesting.
